I brought my 82 year old mother for high tea and it did not disappoint! We were initially met at the door by a delightful French man who was very engaging and took us to our table. We were then served for the rest of the afternoon by our waiter Brendan who was wonderful. The food was delicious and plentiful. Thank you for a very memorable afternoon - your staff, service and food was absolutely divine
We recently stayed a night and loved the character and old world charm of this hotel. We did not want to check out! The concierge was extremely kind and caring in particular a lovely gentleman who worked the morning of the January 1st who held our bags prior to checking in, as we were early. Our room looked to have been refreshed and still retained a beautiful classic look and feel. Honestly one of the best night sleeps I’ve ever had, quiet and calm with soft sheets and pillows. I particularly loved the traditional Christmas decor in the foyer with the trimmed tree and poinsettias abundant. I found all the staff to be helpful and accomodating and I would definitely stay here again. And might I Add, may this hotel never ever be developed or changed or touched. Reading the history of this beautiful building and the constant bids to demolish partial and build new makes me both anxious and upset. May this relic and historical significance of Melbourne be protected at all costs. The ghosts of yester-year will, protect (and haunt) this place undeniably. That I know!
We enjoyed afternoon tea to celebrate our anniversary. It was a bucket list item for me and the experience lived up to its reputation. The whole experience was delightful. The gluten free option was very easy to organise and I didn't feel like I missed out on anything compared to the regular menu. Warm savoury pastries, sandwiches, fruity sweets, scones and the extra dessert bar on the weekend. A tasty selection of tea, coffee, chocolate, wines and cocktails.
Positive: Everything was absolutely perfect. Since I was a returning guest, they treated me with a complimentary bottle of my favorite sparkling wine. Negative: ""
Very underwhelming From the doorman, concierge to front desk unhelpful unknowlegable The doorman was to busy talking to a friend while he had a coffee to even acknowledge our arrive., His attire was sloppy and unprofessional. Front Dresk, arrived around 2, room would be ready till 3 was told there was no where to have a cup of tea or sit and just relax, had no idea where we get tea that was close to the hotel. At least 6 - 10 people after us rooms were available. When our room was finally available up we go waiting for our bags finally I had to ring and ask for them. Breakfast for 2, black tea and toast, eggs Benedict and an orange juice, I'm still waiting for the orange juice. There was only about 8 tables occupied. 20 minutes to get our car on leaving, if we should have of been told it would take this long on check in and we could have rung ahead. This just a small summary. Silicone around the bath had mould spots. Absolutely no way 5 star hotel or experience/ service. I had been a number of year ago and it was sad to experience how far The Windsor Hotel has fallen in condition and staff professionalism. Over all experience poor definitely won't be back.
I have stayed at the Hotel Windsor on numerous occasions. My most recent booking Sunday, March 1st 2026 was sub standard. The reception staff allowed the phone to ring out twice when on arrival we needed to contact them re valet parking, and we finally checked in, the reception staff were quite rude. The Twin bed room was noisy, and the beds were very uncomfortable, hard and lumpy. The air conditioner was also very noisy. There was no bottled water in the room, and only two bath towels were provided. (One each) an extra towel for wet hair would have been nice! On the positive side, the restaurant served a lovely breakfast, and the Sunday evening Concierge was very helpful, his service could not be faulted. Although I love the location and the ambiance the hotel offers, I will not stay at the hotel again.
Location, staff and overall vibe of the hotel. Honestly, you can't beat the convenience of this location. Just on the border of the free zone cbd. So free trams and quick trams into the centre, 2 blocks away from all the main cocktail bar. Fantastic coffee shops either side of the hotel. Train station at your door step. Only issue is the entry is a couple of steps in for people woth accessibility issues. Otherwise don't hesitate and just book.
