An impressive stand out building on one of the best sites in the City of Armidale. It is worth a visit just to look over the expansive view to the north and over the City. Beautiful grounds and gardens featuring roses. This magnificent building features eight huge columns and a wide entry staircase. It was built as a Teacher's College which became the Armidale College of Advanced Education then after many years part of the University of New England. The centre of the building interior features a beautiful Concert Hall. Upon seeing the stage area of the Hall it brought back a personal memory to me from 1977. Then a dear close friend was in the lead role of Dorothy in the musical "The Wizard of Oz". Toto was a fully grown Irish Wolfhound. Dorothy was knocked over a few times by the over zealous Toto particularly when I and another student threw the occasional lamb chump chop from the side curtains onto the stage. It resulted in mayhem, rapturous laughter and applause. Dorothy was played by the now famous Rhonda Birchmore who was then only 19 years old. It is indeed a grand home for the New England Conservatorium of Music.
