Customer Reviews
The Whalers Hotel has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 based on over 898 reviews on Google
This is a large pub with pokies, so its a big space with lots of customers so it gets noisy. It is very central. We had garlic bread as a starter, that was basically melted cheese on bread for $12. Main courses were lamb roast for $30 and 300 gram scotch fillet for $59. The lamb was nice, well cooked and plenty of it. Presentation left a little to be desired witb the lamb plonked on top of the vegetables. With the steak, we were not asked how we wanted it cooked, and we expected it to be medium rare, but it came out virtually raw. The surface was grey, and the fat was white and not even caramelised. We had a bottle of house chardonnay for $30 that retails for $10. Near the end of our meal a member of staff was cleaning the table next to ours and using a cleaning spray, which he managed to spray all over our table too.
🥩 If you’re looking for a great steak you must try The Whalers! We shared the huge rib eye between 2 and it was awesome. Perfectly seasoned and charred, side salad was good, potato’s were ok. A must with this steak is chewing all the best bits off the bone at the end 🤤 definitely worth checking out for a meal if you’re in town. They do also have a good sports bar area with TAB and pokies room.
The staff were good and explained how things work, but the QR code ordering system didn't work. Tried the indicated website, it didn't work either. Other people had the same issue. The meals came promptly and looked good. Seemed a bit mass produced, not prepared on site. Would ret6as i liked the look of the place.
Came here with seven mates over the long weekend after a hike. We all ordered different items. Four of them had the potato pizza (4/5) and all said it was pretty good. One had the roast (5/5) and said it tasted great, another ordered a curry and rated it 4/5, and the last got the lamb, which she said was amazing (5/5). I ordered last, and after hearing how good everyone else’s meals were, I had high expectations. I paid $68 for a rump steak and thought it would be awesome — sadly, it wasn’t. I asked for medium rare but it came out well done. I’m not someone who sends food back, so I ate what I could, but it was very dry. Overall, I was more disappointed than anything. I’d say this place is a good option for the cheaper items on the menu, but the more expensive dishes don’t seem to live up to their price. For the cost, the steak tasted no better than a $30 one. The vegetables and sauce were amazing, but the main part — the meat — really let it down. I’m giving it 3/5 overall, as everyone else mostly enjoyed their meals.
Very good local restaurant. If you are a tourist like me, don't hesitate to come here for steak!
The Whalers Hotel – Eye Fillet Heaven ★★★★★ Had the eye fillet steak and the eye fillet salad at The Whalers Hotel and both were absolutely spot on! The steak was perfectly cooked, super juicy, and full of flavour. The salad was fresh, well-balanced, and the tender pieces of eye fillet made it a standout. The person at the counter (possibly the manager) seemed a bit tired or maybe just having a long day, but honestly, the quality and taste of the food made up for it completely. Sometimes, the food speaks louder than the vibe—and this was one of those times. Would definitely go back for another round. Highly recommend it if you’re a steak lover! Thank you 😊
Great pub! Ordered the vegan and the mushroom arancini, all delicious and they provided water for the dog! Excellent beers on tap as well. Recommend the pirate pale ale.
