Start with the positives: Bed very comfortable bathroom very big and nice finishes. Staff topped up the coffee pods and water bottles, nice touch. Location is excellent 2k to blue lake and very central to town for walking. We stayed in the green room the main issue is you could hear the people above both talking and the foot steps. 2-3 nights right at our bed time it’s like the people above started walking around and talking in some cases could hear what they were saying, on the third night there were people above but the noise wasn’t an issue, perhaps carpet could help. Lastly the cleaning standards were average, groups of flies on the floor and cobwebs in the corners. Overall it is a nice place and the lady that served us was excellent and warm. Im not sure the people running it are putting too much effort in to the upkeep, example of this is the entry gate covered in bushes etc.
Staying a night in Mt. Gambier, the beautiful old Colhurst House seemed an attractive option to the usual motels. It is indeed an attractive old mansion, built in 1878 and a delight to spend a night. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated in keeping with the stately grandeur and age. The bed was most comfortable ensuring a good sleep and the house is quiet, it only holds a limited number of guests. If you are upstairs, as we were, a beautiful old staircase leads to your room. The bathroom likewise was tastefully decorated and held an old free-standing bath with a shower head over it. It was quite slippery and an anti-skid mat was provided but one has to be careful in accessing it. Basic tea is provided but with a nice touch a Nespresso machine and pods in the room. Parking was available at the rear of the building off the adjacent street. It is self-catering but a short drive away are plenty of restaurants. The WiFi worked but was quite slow. Overall a nice quaint place to spend a night. The famed ‘Blue Lake’ is only a 5 minute drive away.
I recently stayed in the Green Room at Colhurst House for a work trip and had a fantastic experience. The room was absolutely gorgeous—beautifully decorated, clean, and very comfortable. The tranquil setting made it easy to unwind after a long day. Although no food was provided, a local supermarket and several restaurants were just a short drive or walk away. Parking was secure, which added peace of mind. I highly recommend this place, especially for solo travellers or anyone looking for a stay that's a little unique and full of charm.
Stylish hotels. Convinient location to the surroundings.
The room was great, first impressions driving into the place and check-in was very average. It's an old building with not much to offer, the room was well appointed but noisy with the other guests.
We had booked 2 rooms for 1 night. The hotel doesn’t have a reception. They provide a number where someone available at all times in case of any issues or questions. We had to wait a while before someone came to help us inspite of informing them before hand. It’s answered every time Except the one time we were waiting! Although it’s a really nice Victorian style house turned hotel the rooms are very outdated and really need to be refurbished. While it looks beautiful and unique there’s lot of wear and tear.| It was really scary because everything is so dark and quiet around. We felt like we had booked a haunted house. It was very spooky. The constant creaking of the floors only made it worse. When we came back to the hotel at night, the door to the house was open. We called the number provided and he said they would check.|Wouldn’t come here again.
We only stayed 1 night in the White Room which was upstairs and had a view of the town. Colhurst House is a character filled and historic property in a lovely garden setting. It was very spacious and charming. We didn't use the large loungeroom downstairs but enjoyed the Coffee pod machine in our room.|The owner greeted us and made sure we were comfortable and answered all our touristy questions.|We had a five minute walk to a yummy BYO Thai restaurant that night for dinner.|We had a very short drive to the Blue Lake so I would say location was handy.
