Address, a historic landmark in Melbourne, stands as a preserved gem of the city’s scientific and cultural heritage. Housed in a classically styled 19th-century building, it blends elegance with functionality, offering versatile spaces for gatherings of up to 90 people—ideal for both formal and informal events. The venue retains its original purpose as a hub for the Royal Society of Victoria, fostering curiosity and intellectual exchange.

Adjacent to the CBD and near Fitzroy Gardens, its standout feature is a South Pole granite boulder outside, adding a touch of geological intrigue. While accessibility to the upstairs theatre is limited, the historic charm and practicality of the venue make it a noteworthy choice for events. A subtle yet meaningful reminder of Melbourne’s layered past.

At first glance, it’s just an ordinary river rock. But is it? Placed due south, standing quietly amidst the rush of traffic, this unassuming boulder challenges us to pause, to question, to explore. In a world that often rushes past the obvious, it serves as a subtle reminder—science thrives on curiosity, and even the simplest objects can hold extraordinary stories.

This is a good inner city venue for formal and informal-formal gatherings of up to 90 people. Unfortunately the upstairs theatre does not have wheelchair access and might be challenging for others who need an elevator. Still, there are downstairs options as well.

Beautiful historical building - attended a session on AI there. A good place for an event.

A PIECE OF VICTORIA'S HISTORY PRESERVED Beautiful old Royal Historical Society building. Great that it hasn't been crowded in by newer buildings. Still very much an "active" building with lots of Historical Society events.

Can’t comment on the organisation or what’s inside the building, but from the outside it presents as a classically styled 19th century building. Located a short walk from Melbourne’s CBD and on the way to the Exhibition Centre in Fitzroy Gardens. Best part is the chunk of granite from the South Pole sitting out the front.

Beautiful historic building that is still hosting its original occupant, the Royal Society of Victoria, and still a focus for the advancement of science in the State
