Bought a cake today and at home saw the label "best before 1st of march" (today is 10th). Called a shop right away and response was that sometimes that can happen and all their cakes are freshly made. On my question when my cake was made response was "I believe 3 days ago", but 'believe' it's not a 100% reliable answer.. In the shop today were 3 people and none seems to know ingredients in the cakes as well. How then to believe that cake is fresh?! Not going to eat it for sure!
