The Grumpy Baker

Went for a long walk on the Maroubra beach front. The Grumpy Baker was a perfect pit stop to recharge. The sausage rolls were delicious! The outdoor seating overlooks the beach.

I’m gluten free, so I may be very biased about the service received. Loved both cakes I had. Very stellar, in terms of ingredients I would say just right. 100/10. I wish they had indoor sitting. But I give it to the patrons very quick turnaround time for serving and everything. Thank you for a beautiful experience

Exceptionally good pies!! A bit more on the pricey side but absolutely worth it. Amazing pastry, high quality ingredients and tasty gravy. Muffins and coffee were good too. They also have the best dark rye bread!

We were curious because the line is always long when we walk past, so we expected something special. Unfortunately, the wait is mainly due to very slow service. The guy on the coffee machine was extremely slow, and the girl handing out drinks (British accent) was rude and snapped at customers when they entered. I understand the space is very small and she needed room to move, but tone matters. Some of the staff could definitely benefit from customer service training. On a positive note, the girl at the register was friendly, fast, explained the pastries well, and kept smiling. The rugolach and muffin were delicious, the chicken pie was great. Coffee was okay, but not worth a nearly 30-minute wait.

Amazing croissant and beef goulash pie! They actually give you chunks of beef. The flavour was great. The croissant was a softer croissant and less flaky than normal, but I think they were going for that. My son and I gobbled the whole thing up.

This bakery has a bit of charm, Famous for its pies and sausage rolls. I would recommend the mushroom pie which is full of flavour and satisfying even for a meat lover. We frequently visit to buy the fresh sourdough bread loaves. There's usually a short line but it moves pretty quickly. There's lots of street parking within a short walking distance, but on a sunny weekend it might be a challenge to find a spot. Price can be considered reasonable especially for a beach side location.
