Smiths Cakes & Aquilana Pasticceria

If you have travelled to Sicily you will instantly know where you are when you wander into Aquilana. Instantly transported to Catania, no passport required. Rosa and her talented family are the perfect embodiment of the region. The coffee is Italian, no Sicilian. The food is just as it should be, super delicious where tomatoes taste like tomatoes and the spices in the cakes and biscuits taste like history, diversity, and the hot sun from insanely blue skies. You are lucky to be a Aquilina and I imagine in the near future such places will no longer exist. I thank Rosa and her family for letting me have a holiday every time I go in, an escape, being fed in every way that counts. Ciao.

Another little gem on Smith St. What a beautiful little shop !!! Popular with the locals. The lady who served me was very welcoming, polite, and efficient. Today, I enjoyed a beautiful coffee and a few gorgeous little Italian biscuits. The prices are good. The place is clean and comfortable. I enjoyed my coffee and bicuits seated inside with some beautiful Italian music playing gently in the background. I highly recommend a visit to this shop, you won't regret it

Lovely old school pastry shop with in house made pastries. I had a great pastry that they heated up in a little oven. Flaky and full of cheese, salami and fresh tomato. No need for the tomato sauce. Recommend eating in.

Hard to go past a cafe offering some sweet treats and those at Smiths Cakes & Aquilana Pasticceria looked good. Love the ricotta cannoli, filling is superb and nice crunch from the shell. Like that touch of orange citrus which pairs well against the cheesy ricotta. The profiterole with custard is also excellent. Beautiful Italian pastries, pies, cakes, biscuits sandwiches etc and more at this bakery. Charming staff that make you actually feel taken care of. Absolutely delightful. Similar vein to the Acland Street old Cafe vibe except the owners really are Italian!

This is my absolute favourite place to visit in Melbourne. I make the trip twice every year for business and will travel out of my way just to get a box of their sweet treats. Just beautiful and authentic food!
