Black Star Pastry Burwood
Black Star Pastry Burwood offers a diverse range of cakes and pastries, with their watermelon cake being a notable highlight. The establishment has expanded its offerings to include beverages, providing a cozy spot to enjoy treats within the Westfield Burwood complex. While some pastries may be overly sweet, others like the matcha cheesecake are praised for their richness and aroma. The friendly staff adds to the pleasant experience.
However, there have been occasional issues with order accuracy and presentation, which may detract from the overall experience. Despite these inconsistencies, Black Star Pastry remains a popular choice for those seeking unique and flavorful desserts. The quality of service and product presentation could benefit from improvement to match the high standards of their pastries.

Came for the watermelon cake at 7pm Thursday but it was sold out. Had the carrot cake instead it was a bit too sweet and dense The barista seemed inexperienced.
One of the best iced matcha latte’s I’ve had! The bright green colour was just what I was looking for and it was very flavourful. I had vanilla syrup added to sweeten mine a little. Highly recommend!
Once a well known 5 star bakery in Newtown. Loved it but seems since expanding they gone down hill. Have to deduct some stars because - Went to make an order and they got the pick up location wrong and name wrong, lucky I checked and able to catch it as it was for an event. - When I picked up the cake, both cakes were in really worn down cake boxes that looks like they were dragged against something. Was also chocolate and cream on the outside of the boxes. Very sloppy. - The paper bag was also falling apart a bit. If they were $2 or $5 cakes Id understand but they are charging a premium and giving sloppy business processes and sloppy cake box and bags. Can we go back to only having the 1 Newtown Shop and I'll go make the drive instead! Edit: Cakes seem to also have gone down hill since 🙁 Gallop Cake and Chocolate cake. Staff was friendly though and as helpful as they could be
Nice little cake shop that has now opened up permanently on the Ground Fl of Westfield Burwood Wich now offer drinks as well as pastries and cake and have some seats si you can enjoy your food there
So haply to see Black star pastry here. One of my favourite bakery store and as always, their best seller is the watermelon cake. Today we tried their matcha cheesecake as well, which is very rich and tasty. It could be a little bit too sweet, but it was really creamy and aromatic. We will try their flan pastry later as we bought it and currently store in our fridge.
The cakes are terrible now, overly sweet with no depth to the flavour. Service was awful as well, the boxes were all banged up and covered in chocolate and cream. Unbelievable for the price that this is how they present their cakes. Looks like the original founder sold the business many years ago which might explain why black star has gone downhill. Not coming back again.
I’ve tried the infamous watermelon cake here. Although it seemed like fresh ingredients, I don’t think it’s worth $11 for the taste. It should be $6 tops. The cake looks nice, but the taste is overhyped. The bitterness of the crumbs does not work well with sugary whipped cream. I rather have a watermelon as is. Won’t be buying it again.
