Centrestage Costumes

I stopped into the shop about a month ago & met River, who couldn’t be more lovely & helped me with a few costume pieces and ideas. I also brought some friends who were visiting from overseas and again, this shop & River did not disappoint 🙂 The only sad part was returning my items post party, but even then River remembered me & wanted to see photos. I highly highly recommend this place! Thank you for helping me & my girls look absolutely fabulous!

I went in a month ahead of time to reserve costumes for my partner and I for our Halloween party. When I put on the costume that I had been given it was definitely not the one I had reserved it was enormous and about 5 sizes too big for me. I had to rush back when I was expecting people at my house imminently to try to get the right costume, but apparently it had been given to someone else and I had to settle for the closest thing that happened to be in the shop. This is exactly what I was trying to avoid by going in so early, it completely defeats the purpose of reserving something. It was enormously stressful when I should have been preparing for my party I instead had to message everyone and tell them to come later and I still did not get the costume I had reserved and paid for. While they apologies no sort of remuneration was offered in the form of a refund or discount. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because my partners costume was fine and as expected.

Unfortunately this place is a zero. Over the years it has gotten more bizarre and hostile, and the staff, at least on the day I went recently, have also become less hospitable to the point of being contemptuous. No one answers the phones and if you go in there, where you are greeted by two staff members behind the counter scrolling on their phones, who don’t look up from their phones even to greet you, and the no answering of the phones becomes laughable, you ask if they have a thing in stock that they advertise, and they don’t, but you made the trip despite being injured, so that a defensive and aggressive "worker" can take no accountability but instead spit defences at you as to how busy it is and how only one person is there to answer the phone (I’m looking at two people in a completely empty, and filthy shop). I was literally in shock. I used to frequent this place but the quality of particularly the rentable costumes is very poor and many of the garments should be thrown out due to damage and smell putrid. When you go to a place to choose to spend your money and the people there are entitled and completely void in accountability or any semblance of customer service or warmth, it makes you think?? I will never come back here, and recommend you put your dollars somewhere they are at least happy you’re there.

The energy in this place was genuinely dark and almost…. Evil. I truly believe a piece of my soul is trapped there for eternity. I left this establishment not the same person until about 30 minutes after my experience. Be prepared to potentially cry upon leaving this place.

Unreal customer service. They really know how to dress you up for a great night or occasion. Gave them the brief of the party and they nailed it. Check the evidence. Looking fierce 🙂 will be back!

Amazing place with great range. Has helped me out a few times at the last minute. Their Santa costume is the best in Melbourne.
