A peek at Glasshouse Regional Gallery. Spread across three levels, it’s a sizeable regional art gallery with enough space for big pieces. The current exhibition, Bright & Bold, is faxing it in in terms of a uniting theme, but I did like seeing a few items that had been plucked from the Port Macquarie Hastings Council collection. My favourites were Fyku Noriko’s bright yellow untitled piece from 1970, and a piece from Marion Borgelt’s strobe series from 2007–2009. Local artist, Ed Duncan, caught my eye with his 2011 piece entitled, Man of the world in the cannibal metropolis. Another local, Vivienne Criselle, has some interesting textile pieces displayed on the more crafty upper floor.
A really nice regional art gallery spread across 2 floors in the glasshouse centre. Quite a variety of art and even as a non appreciator of art, I enjoyed my visit and admired a few of the works. It’s free to visit so worth a stop while visiting Port Macquarie.
It's a relaxing space and worth a wander. It's free and it's easy to park. The 2 exhibitions featured during my visit were of local work and of artists a bit further north. I loved at least a good proportion of it but I concede a regional public gallery has some responsibility to nurture artists from beginners to expert. This it does but doesn't forget to include a good proportion of skilled and stylish work. Keep up the good work.
A dynamic opening for the inaugural National BLACKSMITHING Survey Exhibition, a beautifully installed exhibition of incredibly diverse work, ambitious in scale and technicalities. A great exhibition for summer, engaging on so many levels and wonderfully at home in the superb contemporary architecture of the Glasshouse Regional Gallery. GRACE COCHRANE, formerly chief curator at The Powerhouse Museum, provided a detailed survey of the revival of contemporary blacksmithing, also to be found in the catalogue! Delighted to be selected for the exhibition, showing a wearable bangle / brooch. Heat forged, mild steel loves to curve around the wrist, or equally, on heavier winter clothing, be pinned as a brooch.
The staff here are so friendly especially Kirsty and Carolina thanks for making it a good experience
Fantastic works on display at the moment.
Excellent regional gallery with high calibre and diverse exhibition by Sydney Printmakers currently, as well as a great survey of local student works.
