Ochre Restaurant and Catering

Great restaurant if you are looking for special food with an Australian twist. We tried the crocodile and prawn appetizer, the kangaroo sirloin, the sweet potato/garbanzo fritters, and the rocket salad. All were excellent, and all gluten free!

Recently went to Ochre on the espanade at Cairns for what i thought was going to be a 5 star meal. I wanted seafood, so decided to order the seafood platter for 2 for myself, which was $185. To say i was disappointed is an understatement!! Wow what an absolute rip off. Staff told me i probably wouldnt be able to eat it all myself..wrong answer. There would be lucky to have been $50 worth of seafood all up, and being a commercial fisherman up here i have a fair idea! On top of that most of it was deep fried and had very little flavour. I definately would not recommend this. You can go next door to Dundees and get a seafood stack for $120, which has nearly all freash seafood and is far better value all round. Give this place a go and you will not be disappointed. Every dish of the tasting menu impressed and I would return to try their other seasonal menus. My favourite would be the beef, perfectly cooked, charred outside and pink in the middle, tasty and tender.

Ochres restaurant was a stunning experience. The service was exceptional, the food exceptional and the ambience top notch. Sitting in a window seat looking out over the Cairns bay and beyond to Mountains has to be one of the most stunning views to eat in front of. I chose the gnocchi with mushrooms which was out of this world. My son chose the sweet potatoe fritters with the Ochre salad. A side of cauliflower and beans were delish. All tastes were fantastic. It was so good we went back the next day for lunch. Totally recommend this restaurant.

Decided to dine here after being rejected by Dundees 🤣 it was a blessing in disguise. The fish with Thai curry was so well cooked and balanced. My favourite was the macadamia cream that came with the kangaroo satays. So rich and nutty and really highlights the use of macadamia nuts. It’s great that they try to highlight Australian produce and do it very well.

Incredibly unique food with a focus on native Australian ingredients. It's clear that a lot of thought has gone into this menu. Staff were lovely, and the place has a great vibe. I'm not sure what more you could want.

Fantastic! Booked lunch and sat outside. It was a bit warm being February so most guests were inside. The frozen coconut margarita was very very good. The food, service and staff were great. Highly recommend 👌
